Yishun Junior College (YJC) is one of the 18 junior colleges in Singapore, offering two-year pre-university programmes for students who graduate from secondary schools after the General Certificate of Education 'Ordinary' Level Examination. The two-year programme prepares students for education in local or foreign universities. The students participate in co-curricular activities, community involvement programmes (CIP), and leadership development programmes. As far as possible, all students experience, besides their 'A' level studies, an adventure camp, an overseas immersion programme or service-learning CIP, and a work attachment with a local or foreign company. In the following year, Yishun Junior College was crowned champion by beating Raffles Junior College in the final. The debate team of 1989 beat Hwa Chong Junior College and National Junior College in earlier rounds, moving to defeat Catholic Junior College in the finals.
